Bus

Buses are among the most inexpensive means of transportation in Kochi. The city and its suburbs are well-connected through an excellent network of buses (both government-run and private) that not only link all parts of the city, but also connect Kochi to other parts of the state.

Metro

The Kochi Metro was inaugurated in June 2017, and is India’s first multimodal system, with a soon to be launched water metro system that will connect the city with its ten islands. Students can avail of a monthly or weekly Metro pass that allows them to travel multiple times within the same period.

Taxi

Car/taxi rental agencies in Kochi are aplenty, and you easily can hire a cab to get around the city. Fares are fixed in advance, and some cabs will run on meters that are calibrated to show charges per kilometre.

Auto-rickshaw

The quickest and most convenient means of transportation in Kochi are autorickshaws. Autos are easily available from almost any point in the city, with auto stands that are well distributed across all localities. Pre-paid auto stands are available at railway stations and bus stands.

Ferry

Ferries are a fun way of transportation in Kochi, and the city has a system of well-connected inter-island ferries. A popular and well-frequented ferry service is the Ro-Ro (Roll on-Roll off) ferry service between Fort Kochi and Vypin islands.

Cycle

Many parts of Kochi, especially the Fort Kochi area which has dedicated tracks for cyclists, can be explored on bicycle. Bicycles are available on rent and can be hired by the day.
