This skill set reflects the skill requirements for people entering the health and community services sector. It provides a set of skills to support the induction of new workers into a variety of roles. Work is supervised and may involve working directly or indirectly with clients.
This skill set is for workers entering or working in community services or health sector roles.
This unit can be used as an “upskilling” product for those with existing qualifications. For those undertaking a qualification, a very large number of qualifications will allow this unit to be included as part of their packaging rules. This unit can also be used as standalone training for those currently in the workforce without a qualification, however, it should be trained in the context of the learner’s job role.

These units provide credit towards a range of qualifications in the CHC Community Services Training Package and the HLT Health Training Package.
Achievement of this unit of competency provide credit towards the Certificate III in Individual Support and other qualifications that allow for selection of these units.
IHNA has in place admission criteria for courses in its scope as required by its ‘Application and Enrolment Procedure for VET Courses’ to ensure that candidates meet industry requirements.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are encouraged to apply.
If a candidate believes there would be a disclosable issue on their national police check, a confidential conversation will be required prior to enrolment to determine suitability for work.
