Introduction

The HLT57715 – Diploma of Practice Management reflects the role of business or practice managers who manage the operation of small to medium sized health practices. This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required to oversee the operations and promotion of medical, dental and health practices.

You will gain knowledge on how to lead personnel, accomplish organisational objectives, minimise risk, put infection control procedures into practise, and—most importantly—provide patients with excellent care.

Once completed, the Diploma in Practice Management will give you the knowledge and abilities needed to support a company’s strategic direction and ensure efficient everyday operations.

By handling all administrative procedures in various healthcare institutions, you can work as a Practice Manager or Health Administration Manager and ensure that the quality of patient care.

The aim of the course is to produce highly skilled, competent, confident, critically thinking Practice Managers with a nationally accredited qualification in order to practice in a variety of health practice areas including medical, dental, chiropractic, podiatry, rehabilitation, community, mental health or aged care settings in Australia.

Blended Delivery

The amount of training that will be provided as a base line includes:

  • 574 hours of theory and lecture delivery
  • 112 hours of other supervised instruction (SBA)
  • 174 hours of structured unsupervised learning (structured interactive learning)
  • 16 hours of work placement

This provides a total of 876 hours in total 52 weeks with 36 weeks of course delivery and 16 weeks of holiday period. Students will do minimum of 10 hours of self-paced training in each week. So, volume of training will be 1236 hours for this course. Overall, students have a duration of 52 weeks to complete the qualification. Extensions are available to students who have been progressing but unable to complete within the set duration. Students should apply formally, in writing, to their facilitator for an extension. 20 hours per week will be delivered through synchronised Online learning which includes on- campus simulation based training and Professional experience placement. Besides the above structured learning, students are advised that they will be required to do approximate 10 hours per week of unstructured learning.

There are no pre-requisites or any other training package entry requirements for this course. IHNA has in place admission criteria for courses in its scope as required by its ‘Application and Enrolment Procedure for VET Courses’ to ensure that candidates meet industry requirements.

IHNA Admission requirements

  • Successful completion of Plus Two or above qualification & basic computer skills
  • 18 years of age and above at the time of commencement of the course
  • Successful completion of the language, literary and numeracy (LLN) test and demonstration of competence level as exit level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF)
  • Mature age students (22+) will also be considered without the minimum education requirements. Each case will be reviewed individually to ascertain the capacity of the student to meet course. requirements

*Students are required to meet the Department of Home Affairs English language requirements for student visa applications, which may differ from the above course entry requirements

Professional Experience Placement (PEP) requirements

  • Immunisation is required prior to undertaking ‘Professional Experience Placement’(PEP) in healthcare facilities
  • Physical requirements that are necessary to pass the course objectives are:
    • Strength: To assist with lifting and transferring a client, and perform CPR
    • Mobility: To bend, stoop, and bend down to the floor; ability to move around rapidly; and to move in small, confined spaces
    • Hearing: To hear through the stethoscope to discriminate sounds; to hear cries for help; to hear alarms on equipment and emergency signals; and various overhead pages
    • Vision: To make physical assessments of client and equipment
    • Communication: To communicate in both verbal and written formats; and interact with clients, staff, and faculty supervisors
  • Students must declare a disability or disorder (if any), or if they are on any medication which may require reasonable adjustments.

Our approach is to collect evidence on whether the student can perform to the standards of the workplace. This is based on the relevant unit of competency, and you’ll find these tools being used:
